New Old Stock Ford Model T Light Connecting Rods from Niagara Motors
We have a large quantity of Ford Model T Connecting Rods that I'm selling for a friend. My buddy recently cleaned out a relative's barn who was a higher up at Niagara Motors and some of the excess connecting rod inventory from the plant was tossed in his relative's barn after the factory closed.
These connecting rods are in cardboard boxes that are in mostly decent condition considering they've been in semi-exposed to the elements for decades.
We believe these are a very rare find and there might never be another opportunity to buy this quantity of NOS (New Old Stock) Ford Model T connecting rods from a single source that have been sitting in their original boxes for 70+ years.
Update: I've determined half of the connecting rods we have available in unlabeled boxes are more than likely later Model T connecting rods.
These rods have no markings or numbers that yielded any search results or info that helped to determine the original vehicle application or specs.
After a little more research, you'll see from the image I uploaded that shows the various iterations of the Model T connecting rod and it appears to show the later models had a closed end just like these rods do.
Looking at them again, I realized that these are pretty much the same form factor as the light Model T rods that I also have for sale.
After some measuring with a digital caliper, I compared these unlabeled rods with 2 known Model T connecting rods and the results are very close with one another.
My measurements may also have some margin of error because of the way I had the digital caliper angled.
You can see in the pictures I've show known Model T connecting rods with the split end (highlighted in red and Not Included) vs. the ones in this listing.
Condition:
We rated the Connecting Rod Boxes in this lot to range from grade 'A' - 'B' condition
What that means and how we graded boxes:
A: Almost flawless boxes, in very good condition with possibly being slightly crushed or creased.
B: Still in very good shape with a minor staining, possibly a torn/missing flap or slightly more creased.
C: Still resembles a box but has have several creases, is semi crushed, heavy staining, and/or torn flaps
D: Box has some extra ventilation due to the multiple holes, heavy staining, crushed and torn ends
F: Box is no longer a box but a mere mangled cardboard flap of its former self.
Keep in mind, these were in a barn for over 50 years. There was quite a bit of dirt & cobwebs on these when we moved them out. We are doing our best to clean these to the best of our ability, using compressed air and wiping down gently with shop towels but it's impossible to get them pristine.
Basically don't be alarmed if you come across a dead spider or cobweb inside some of the boxes.
This is just a small possibility and want to be clear to manage expectations.
Note, this is the condition of the box the rod is in only.
What We Know:
What I do know is that these were originally from Niagara Motors and when cleaning out the barn, we came across some some old papers, some of the material dates back to 1941.
These rods are definitely a piece of history. My friend is holding onto the original papers and documents. If requested, I can include copies of the pictured papers.
Again, the original documents shown are not included and are pictured because we couldn't find any other details on these other than they're Ford Connecting Rods for various models.
If I find out any more info about these, I'll update the listing. If you happen to stumble across this listing and are knowledgeable of any specifics for these parts. Let me know.
Unknowns:
Inside the boxes the rods them selves are in unknown condition; meaning I don't know if these were: factory rejects, over-sized, damaged, etc.
Also, I don't know the exact amount of surface rust on each individual rod as we have hundreds of these rods. I don't want to open each box as the cardboard is from the 1930s to 1940s era. It's a little brittle and would rather not tear the cardboard and keep them in the condition they are currently in.
The few we did open are anywhere from almost pristine to having a moderate amount of surface rust. I try to pick 2-4 out of each lot to open give an idea of what to expect.
Think of it as a little surprise when you open each box. ;-)
Due to these unknowns, the connecting rods are being sold as-is with no guarantee of size or specification. - please keep this in mind when purchasing.
A Note About Shipping:
These are already packed into a Medium Flat Rate USPS box ready to ship.
Final Note:
I have done my best to describe these connecting rods as accurately as possible. If you notice something is mis-labeled or some information is incorrect, please let me know ASAP and I will correct the description ASAP.
Any errors or mistakes are not intentional.
Because of the number of unknowns with these connecting rods, they are being sold as-is with no guarantee of size or specification and all sales are final.
- Please keep this in mind when purchasing. -
